rob belleville is a producer from the netherlands. his music can be found in the same space as producers such as arne weinberg, microworld, sean deason and drivetrain. he is know for moving between ambient electronica and atmospheric techno sounds, always warm and well produced. this release is no different, as here we have two very special tracks with the same integrity as anything rob has written in the past. on the a side we ve got implacable force which features a driving techno foundation and washy synths, interwoven for perfect headspace. the second track in is sungazing, which takes you into a more lazy groove with swirling, warm pads and more good drum programming. the b side features rise n shine and sands of time, both blurring the line between deep house and techno, with a fine balance between the melodic textures and tech house percussion. if you like atmospheric, melodic textures and quality music in general, this one is for you.

robotron is the machine formerly known as xinner. this is its first offering for the esp institute. side as dream resonator is an idiosyncratic network dexterous machine drum/percussion programming, an ebb and flow of floating arpeggios, syncopated counter-melodies and a hail of stabbing stringscontinually diffusing into ethereal vapor all stacked into an (aptly-named) orchestral anthem. side bs ice takes a similar approach with arrangement, each instrument carving out its place in the tracks mechanics for a glorious convergence of patterns, but, where side a proves optimistic, here we sense a more menacing undercurrent, an austerity powerfully articulated through towering kicks and claps so compressed they fill up every dark corner of negative space. indeed, robotron has an innate command for building and calibrating robust systems, but beneath this calculated veil we find the remnant human behavior of xinner. these two songs will whisper loudly but scream quietly.

focusing on low-slung idm, acid and atmospheric electro with nods to krautrock & ambient sounds, steve hy-lands attraktta project gets an extended outing on the film label. across eight beautifully produced tracks, hyland - one of the founding members of ai records and subsequently concrete plastic, explores vibrant synthesis and intricate drum programming, with the music arriving at a sweet spot between home listening material & club-ready workouts for more intelligent dance floors. eschewing straightforward synth sequences in favour of blissed out - almost disharmonious sonics, hyland trans-mits a curious psychedelia on his debut lp. sounds pitch and warp organically, buoyed up by saturated low end and punchy drum machine percussion. there remains a decidedly accomplished precision to the work, though - with the music bearing all the hallmarks of an artist of some considerable experience - testament to the british pro-ducer & label heads 19 years working in the industry. a colourful, exquisitely composed lp that riffs on a timeless production aesthetic with considerable style, echo principle is a fantastic entry into the film records discography.

jump trax is another essential piece of early chicago house music crafted by the legendary duane thamm jr back in 1984. fusing together a myriad of influences including early 80s euro pop, italo disco and hi nrg, thamm jr was responsible for helping create and influence the burgeoning house sound that would emanate from the city all throughout the second half of the 1980s. not only were these sounds new and fresh, they were experimental too, jump trax sees the bpm s gradually shift throughout the duration of the tracks seamlessly giving the more adventurous djs out there more ammunition and room to experiment with styles and bpms. a truly visionary approach to production and all recorded and mixed within chicago s city limits by thamm jr at his reel to reel studio located in villa park, illinois. jump trax continues to be as influential today as it was back in 84, with many top dj s still citing the record as a go to, powerful indeed. chicagos still music are proud to present this fully legit, remastered and repressed piece of chicago house history. a truly pivotal record now made available again for 2018. essential sound for those who love the real deal snoozing not advised, og copies of this monster are hard to come by!

surely one of the finest operators in the uk underground, miles atmospheric released his last album under his own name miles sagnia back in 2014, and now he finally returns to the long player format to unfurl his vision of deep, driving techno. this time he s appearing on finale sessions, and it s the perfect home for his thoughtfully sculpted cuts. there are more outwardly mellow moments such as mensura, and the utterly gorgeous-peace but there is also plenty of space afforded to the sharper end of his creative transmissions. elysium is a dense, rippling throwdown that touches on many different aspects of contemporary house and techno, while rise offers up a refreshing variation on the acid house template. once again, miles atmospheric demonstrates why he s such a vital, if sometimes overlooked, force in the uk underground

we could say that with this sixth studio album anthony joseph is back to his roots. indeed, it was recorded on his native island of trinidad. but it is more of a continuation, of a culmination. as the caribbean music has strongly infused the music of anthony since its inception. this album entitled people of the sun is a tribute to port of spain (pos), this bubbling port, meeting place of many cultures and a door open on south america. this energy is found throughout the album with many stars of the island (3 channel, brother resistance, ella andal, boogsie the king of steel pan) and pays tribute to rapso, a mixture of protest poetry and soca / calypso created in the 80’s. as always the verb remains in the spotlight with anthony joseph.

new from the ever discerning nous camp comes ayln s rehtomep, a 25 minute exploration of the kind of unrelenting machine music for which both artist and label have come to prominenc. side a is a journey through sparse syncopated rhythms, industrial noise motifs and the kind of buzz and hum that the heroes of the second wave of techno music championed, culminating in the ep s title track rehtom which is an exercise in analogue techno mastery. side b s delivery is subtly more dulcet, kicking off with digital memories, which has a more classical techno structure than anything that came before, building intricate melodies into an otherwise taut and tightly woven electronic landscape while the closing impulsive sheit is a gentle downbeat number, exploring the space within the music and creating an atmospheric ambient discourse to outro the heady charge of the ep as a whole.

seth troxlers definitive dance floor label play it say it has a real coup for their next single: a collaborative track from trendsetting and globally renowned brothers nic fanciulli and mark fanciulli, one that is likely to become an anthem for the months ahead. the high impact star is the sort of big, muscular main room tune that blows crowds away. built around barreling drums and rubbery bass, the track is brought to life with a classic vocal sample from rose royces 1978 hit wishing on a star that truly sets the whole thing on fire. creeping synth sounds add another edge to things and the results are sure to sweep up even the biggest of dance floors. the superb dub version has even more focus on the monstrous drums and allows the synths to breath that bit more for extra euphoric effects. this is a brilliant pairing and it s no surprise the prominent brothers come up with some real house heat here.

after reissuing stanislav tolkachevs masterpiece blue mood, the intergalactic research institute for sound comes back with two fresh pieces from georgian artists zesknel and irakli. following a strong start with de sounds from georgia, this new record explores a more abstract electronic music. zesknel, who is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, collaborates here with irakli on two dreamy and airy soundscapes which aspire to depict and recreate the atmosphere of the georgian capital. to do so, they asked for the help of rezo glonti who proceeded to make field-recordings in tbilisi. this work served as a base in order to create something unique and true to the city. the project is part of a sound installation which aims to blend architecture with sound. the idea of the two artists was to conceive a space where they could translate the spirit of tbilisi. inside that space will be found works exhibited by other georgian artists. and this is all part of the exhibition >lara protects me. eine georgische erzählung< at the museum angewante kunst frankfurt

italian scifi producer and sound designer oisel joins the warm up family with this extended ep, offering four cuts in the physical version and 7 in the digital release, this is almost an album that showcases the great studio skills of this young talent, with tracks of diverse approach ranging from direct exercises to more mental and layered.

it s time again for us to welcome another first timer to the second state roster: rocko garoni. having been label manager of sisyphon, in-house imprint of the acclaimed sisyphos club in berlin, garoni is no stranger to curating high quality records, and this time he gets to be curator of his own stunning detection ep. jumping in head first, detection , mischievous number that is equal parts vicious and cunning as it is sensual and inviting. provocative female whispers float over a beat sure to slay any crowd, any time. switching gears, garoni heads into houser territories on phaseful , where glimmers of classic house artifacts are scattered like flickering shimmers over an energetic drum illustration. coming up next is tragedy . it s low slung drums, vast spanning bass and sinister vocal declarations make it an ideal ambassador for the dark mysterious nights. wrapping up the ep is a huge rework of detection by regal, who churns out a burner by cranking up the tempo and tension with crisp drums and an undeniable classic rave leads sure to make the forefathers of techno proud. if it keeps up like this, we expect much more big things in the future from rocko garoni!

tommy rawson releases are sporadic but always high quality. as a former member of the souled duo who ran the excellent fresh minute label hes been around the more tropical end of uk house and broken beat for many years and this, his first full release for bergerac ushers forth a new level in his sound. this whole record is a masterclass in post bruk, forward thinking, shining, bright uk dance music. unmatched in emotion and vibes. deep blue is quite simply the sound of the summer. sun drenched, euphoric and soaring. broken but not broken, 4/4 but not quite housey. jazzy, soulful yeah. it was the highlight of red rack ems olive grove closing set at love international last year when it provided the most halcyon of moments. live trumpet from vicky flint and a whole bag of vibes from tommy rawson. this is a classic. trust. past tense is a super tropical african tinged house stomper which shows tommys love of sunshine vibes once more with acres of space, insistent chants, dubby pianos and a tinge of jungle roller bass. the final track into the future takes us into almost blade runner-esque orchestral emotion but with a kind of balearic feel tucked in there too. beautiful, lilting, emotional memories. you can feel so much love in this track. such a special record. buy it. love it. treasure it.

the year is 2018, and human concrete block has finally emerged from the ever-growing london underground scene. helmed by dj and lobster distribution operative nettles, hcb is an international syndicate dedicated to saving the future of dance music as we know it. for its first offering, hcb delivers a packet of absolutely blissed-out serotonin kissed sunrise rave material from california’s caffeine worldwide aka dylan chase. the “trinity ep” follows after caffeine’s sharp debut on french press lounge last year and hot on the heels of his “universal theme ep” for third try records, bringing more of his signature take on euphoric hardcore, cheeky idm and ambient downtempo meditations.

the latest on lobster theremin white label comes from the canadian-based british up and comer dust-e-1. coming hot on the heels of his dust in the dance ep on collect-call records, dust-e-1 offers up more of his signature sun-drenched, percussive jungle workouts. on his latest offering the lost dustplates ep, dust-e-1 layers wistful dub motifs atop propulsive breakbeats and driving subs. fuzzed out, hard hitting drum and bass breaks are scattered throughout, fused perfectly onto hard steppin riffs and shifting rhythms evoking early 90s london days and deep-in-the-dance warehouse nights.

cadans continues an incredibly strong run of releases with curved, his first drop for ben sims on-point hardgroove imprint. previous output for clone basement series as well as darko essers wolfskuil and balans as well as a collaboration with randomer for tasha s neighbourhood imprint have quickly established cadans (dutchman-in-london, jeroen snik) rep. on curved we re treated to yet more of the rising star s strident and sometimes disorientating rhythms. creep and dank open the ep with blistering purpose - all distorted 909 kicks and and hazy memories of strobes on seething dance floors. the title track kicks off the b-side with an aptly undulating and enjoyably unsettling slant to its main riff while the ep wraps up with chant a brilliantly effective drum-machine and vocal/horn sample workout.

for his new release on nona records brooklyner max ravitz changes the formula again and delivers five spirited acid electro tracks. the ep will be out at the end of august supporting his european summer dates. for the past several years ravitz has been keeping up his production of house and techno music via different outfits like inhalants, masks, or pulpo and most notably patricia with his last year’s release – an epic 3lp record – ‘several shades of the same color’. his recent effort called ‘free lunch’ explores one of the directions presented on the album, however this time adding more color in the palette.

after the great success of his new-classsical album voyage de la planete last year marc romboy releases a special 7inch single according to the album. and once again as he experiments with his sound pushing the boundaries between classical and electronic music to create both an emotional and atmospheric experience. the title track voyage de la planete was especially taped at the robert-schumann-saal in düsseldorf to create a highgrade recording of each classical instrument. the difference between a studio roon and a concert hall is remarkable. another highly acclaimed track, la lune et letoile comes along with an outstanding piano only version which improves once again that less can be so much more.

yasha is 28 year old joe gillick, who grew up immersed in the sounds of ukg & grime on the streets of south london. he founded orphan. in 2015 with his friends sage redman and billy meddleton. the three began throwing bi-monthly parties in deptford, their aim was to feature the unsung heroes, the seminal artists that weren’t often regulars in the crowded london club circuit. cutting his chops djing alongside the likes of tim goldsworthy (dfa, mo’ wax, unkle), dave okumu (the invisible, jessie ware), the golden filter (optimo), mica levi (micachu) and more, joe fed his keen sensibility for club grooves. cut to 2018 and joe finds himself a seattleite.

catch recordings return with their 13th release, this time from dj najaora. hes an emerging talent from the ever growing techno region in georgia who s mature, fully formed sound is showcased here across three innovative left-field techno & electro tracks. the excellent night dreamers takes the a1 spot. its an analogue electro cut throughout. with forceful broken drums accompanied by electric lead lines that provide a powerful energy for the dance floor. space call is a more cerebral and less dance floor affair that has you day dreaming amongst the meandering pads and classic detroit electro vibes. a soft acid line runs throughout, while the whole cuts creates nostalgia of old warp records last of all simulaq which takes the b-side has wide and vast rubber kicks alongside booming bass. making this side a merge of bass and electro. trippy stabs and dark energy pervades the whole thing, making it track for the late hours. while 13 is an unlucky number for some, this certainly doesn t seem to be the case for catch recordings.

the second release on role models is a another from nts dj and apron/youth affiliate shamos. a collection of tracks recorded this year in his studio in london. bonus track included on the cassette(not available on digital format). more releases on role models to come!

following hivers excellent ep, let recordings again welcomes american dj and producer jon hester to their imprint. currently based in berlin but with previous spells in chicago and minneapolis, he returns to the label for a second ep following 2017s communication ep, and other outings on the likes of rekids and dystopian. his adventurous drum programming and high speed techno style kicks things off with radiance, a manically melodic track that takes you on an energetic trip. impermanence is a deeper, more cinematic piece that features rueful pads but still a driving drum line, then stratospheric has huge, hammering kick drums and squelchy synth sounds as well as dancing keys that bring warmth, groove, and soul. last of all, this high class excursion is completed with horizon, delivering barreling drum patterns and edgy pads that trap you in suspense as it races on. all four tracks deliver a high impact techno sound that very much looks to the future.

in 2011, when singer/rapper/songwriter phonte of the foreign exchange (+fe) fame released the critically-acclaimed, top 10 rap/hip hop album, charity starts at home,it was an impactful reminder that phonte was more than just the occasionally comical, often reflective crooner of +fe, much more. as a rapper, phonte had been the lynchpin of north carolina’s globally respected four album, six mixtapes run of the now defunct little brother trio, whose “lovin’ it” single from the 9th wonder produced the minstrel show is a bonafide cult classic.

too $hort’s legendary 1992 effort “shorty the pimp” is back in effect on vinyl thanks to the hip hop preservationist at get on down. though many don’t consider this to be one of too $hort’s strongest releases, the project did move well over 80.000 in its first week of release landing at number 6 on the billboard top 200. taking the title from the incredibly rare 1973 blaxploitation film, too $hort does what he does best on shorty the pimp: funk beats, oastful braggadocio, a few conscious rhymes and layers of straight up pimp talk. the lyrical content can certainly be considered comical and entertaining. “shorty the pimp” is also a stand out project for producer ant banks who did many of the beats for the project, his first works with too $hort with many more to follow over the next decade. oddly enough, one of the best comments on “shorty the pimp” comes from a random guy on the internet who commented on his experience listening to the release, “i ran my car into a tree after listening to ‘it don’t stop’ definitely made for cars with the booming systems!”

boogie café enlist the expertise of goshawk & erik rico to provide the goodness for the next instalment in their boogie café black series. the home e.p. houses four versions of the title track with side a serving up a piano vibe mix, alongside a dub mix for good measure. the vibe mix layers a bassy, bumping piano line & erik s rnb flavoured vocals behind a shuffling beat before a soulful flute line takes centre stage. on a slightly different tip the dub mix drops the flute in favour of echoed out stabs for a sparser and tougher aesthetic, readymade for the dancefloor. flip it over and the percussion vibe mix adds in some choice congas and bongos, combined with sustained organ-style synths and jazzy piano chords, creating a more summertime soul style to the track. the fourth and final dub mix sees goshawk use erik s vocals in short but sweet snippets, adding extra atmosphere to the track but allowing the piano and percussion to lead the way.

children of tomorrow will celebrate soon its 10 years anniversary. the label was created by emmanuel ternois back in the day and being joined by arnaud le texier in 2011. since then they focused on techno producing amazing artists, to name few: terrence dixon, zadig, tensal, antigone, oscar mulero, jonas kopp, samuli kemppi etc... children of tomorrow is now presenting the first album from arnaud le texier. after almost 30 years dj-ing around the world and almost 20 years producing. signing many releases over the years and always busy delivering dance floor releases, it s been a long wait to finally get an album from arnaudon his first album we can feel that he wanted to tell a story and to express something deeper with his production experience. there is a different variety of techno that stretches from ambient / broken beat / hypnotic / raw techno along with subtles grooves, wondrous atmospheres & sonic textures. on a side the album opens with dusk, an ambient atmospheric mid-tempo track with sonic sounds that is a perfect intro.pattern 2 starts with drones and blip sounds and a broken beat groove follows with a pad that sounds like a voice coming from the space. the track ends with some modular click sounds that make the whole track clever. followed by the album title granular therapy, a deep techno track with modular bass line and melancholic pad. a perfect track to play in after or to warm up a party.the b side is more dedicated to the dance floor with black nympheas that is a proper dark modern techno with a grinding bass line and magic drones. a simple beat makes the track evolve in a nice way. blade pass frequency is 4/4 effective techno with a 909 kick, a syncope acid bass line and a pad that sends you to another dimension. it is a powerful track but with a sense of deepness and sensibility that arnaud can achieve sometimes. this side closes with binary sun dawn which is an ambient track with melody that has a jazz feeling mixed with dark atmospheres, sonic drones and water drops. the c side opens with mono driver, a minimal track with a little synth that stays until the end repetitively until it makes you travel and lose your mind. deep and dance floor at the same time.
